FC Ural appoint Goncharenko as new sporting Director
Former CSKA Moscow coach returns to RPL
Viktor Goncharenko has been appointed as the new sporting director of FC Ural Yekaterinburg, the Russian Premier League club have announced.
The 45-year-old Belarusian coach has been out of work since leaving CSKA Moscow in May 2021 and he will now take up a new role with the Yekaterinburg-based club.
Goncharenko's experience
Goncharenko has a wealth of experience in Russian football, having managed CSKA Moscow, FC Krasnodar and FC Ufa in the past.
He led CSKA to three Russian Premier League titles, two Russian Cups and a Russian Super Cup during his time in charge of the club.
Goncharenko also guided CSKA to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League in 2018-19.
He will now be tasked with overseeing the sporting operations of FC Ural, who are currently 14th in the Russian Premier League.
Goncharenko's appointment is a sign of FC Ural's ambition to improve their position in the league and challenge for a place in Europe.
The club's general director, Grigory Ivanov, said: "Viktor Goncharenko is a highly experienced coach who has a proven track record of success in Russian football."
"We are confident that he will be able to help us achieve our goals and take FC Ural to the next level."
Goncharenko said: "I am very happy to join FC Ural and I am looking forward to working with the team and the club's management."
